And now they are indicting Dems.

Don't fall for the spin on this one. He worked in the Clinton and Obama administrations but he is being indicted for work he did later in the private sector for, wait for it...Paul Manafort. Even when someone who worked for the Democrats for years gets indicted it is because he went and worked with the fucking crime syndicate known as the Repug party. Make sure anyone you talk to knows that because that's not how it's being talked about in the media. They keep just referring to him working for Obama and Clinton, as if he's being indicted about something he did during that time.

by Anonymousreply 6April 11, 2019 5:55 AM

Does anyone foresee criminal trials regarding this Trump circus going on for years - 10 years? Would you be dedicated enough to keep track going forward? I think I will. One by one they'll go. The prospect of this keeps me going sometimes.

by Anonymousreply 7April 11, 2019 6:05 AM

Correct, R6.

by Anonymousreply 8April 11, 2019 6:06 AM

so the week isn't over yet and:

Barr has completely revealed his fat fuck self to be a real partisan hack on the level of Nunes and Jordan. If they were AG, they'd be acting the exact same way. Barr is trying to create distrust and uncertainty regarding the intentions of Democrats and our intelligence agencies to protect Trump.

Sessions is a piece of shit for his bigotry but damn he didn't throw the FBI under the bus. He even stated that the DOJ under him found Obama administration DID NOT wiretap Trump Tower.

Now we have Barr bringing up the debunked bullshit about the FISA courts and "spying"

Plus we have Mnuchin and the IRS defying Congress regarding handing over Trump's tax returns. What's next?

What can pop off by Friday night?

I was hoping we'd get some SDNY action but alas no.

by Anonymousreply 9April 11, 2019 7:37 AM
I was hoping we'd get some SDNY action

What makes you think they aren't compromised, too?

by Anonymousreply 10April 11, 2019 7:41 AM

I hope those goddam NY FBI pukes who started up "her emails" shit right before the election are getting the shit kicked out of them with no more tax deductions and the increase in domestic terrorism from the white trash pukes they kowtow to.

They deserve to be kicked in the dick every damned day for that shit.

Those fuckers need to burn. When are we going to see them get their perp walk?

by Anonymousreply 11April 11, 2019 7:47 AM

Munchkin looks like Jeff Koons, whom I also loathe.

by Anonymousreply 12April 11, 2019 7:51 AM

I’m trying to stay as cool as possible throughout this debacle. I keep reminding myself that this is the first time in two years that these pampered, entitled cunts have been called out for their egregious actions.

Bring them to the whipping post (Congress) often, and show them that their fuckery will not be tolerated.

Let’s get the report

Let the fist fighting begin for answers

Get Barr’s ass up on the hill to explain his sorry self

Get Mueller’s ass up on the hill to explain himself

Subpoena liberally

Fight in court

by Anonymousreply 16April 11, 2019 10:13 AM

It's seemingly all going to come to light this month isn't it? The DL psychic predicted April 23 as the day the Mueller report comes out. With assange getting arrested and Barr blatantly lying or trump to create a major distraction something is definitely coming down.

by Anonymousreply 17April 11, 2019 10:42 AM

people are up in arms about the Assange arrest but the best part is that they are blaming Trump

Barr doesn't really have standing on Nadler's request for the tax returns. That's just puffery. Neither does Mnuchin. It will likely go to the Supreme Court. There is no wiggle room. It's been precedent since 1924. It was applied to Nixon with good cause - he had to pay $500,000 back taxes. He's the reason Presidential candidates have released their federal tax returns for the last 40 years. Trump has not shed any light on his returns so there's no denying the need for oversight.

SCOTUS will either protect Trump or defend the rule of law and their decision will have lasting repercussions for American society for years to come. But they will have to cite law. The law says SHALL not MIGHT.

It's unbelievable the willingness to tear this country apart for a complete and total criminal piece of shit like Trump. What a hill to die on.

by Anonymousreply 20April 11, 2019 11:23 AM

It's crazy r20 - I really need to know WHY DO THEY ALL KEEP COVERING FOR HIM? Even Barr's former colleagues are shocked at what he's doing.

by Anonymousreply 21April 11, 2019 11:34 AM

Where did you read about Barr's colleagues?

by Anonymousreply 22April 11, 2019 11:50 AM

Trump and all of his cronies just keep testing the rule of law - it doesn't mean they're winning, it just means that it's left to the opposition to act with decorum, civility and demonstrate the ultimate power of the law.

I look forward to watching Trump being led to from the WH to a paddy wagon on 20/01/21.

by Anonymousreply 23April 11, 2019 11:50 AM

Barr has not been vetted as he should have been by the Media. Yes, we know he's a former AG. We know he's Mr. Iran Contra. We know he subscribes to an extreme view of the Presidency "the unitary executive" which allows a PResident almost dictatorial powers. But we don't know why, at this stage of his career, he'd leave a lucrative position in a private Law Firm to go to the WH to protect THIS President. This is not Bush or Reagan. This is Trump. The guy we keep reading about how much the Republicans in Congress hate behind closed doors. THis entire thing baffles me. I was of a mind a year ago, that Trump's behavior is so outrageous that at some point, after they got what they wanted they'd turn on him, and go with Pence. I never believed the Republican Party big shots would keep protecting him passed a certain point. But clearly Barr's main task is to protect the President. Why? Has anyone examined who the top clients are at his law firm? Has anyone examined his financials? I believe Graham, Grassley, and probably Giuliani are behind his appointment. They may talked him into it. But WHY?

by Anonymousreply 24April 11, 2019 11:53 AM

I worry about Mueller. I hope he is staying well and safe. He is the key to all of this and if something should happen to him we are fucked. The Russians are filthy, ruthless people They would not think twice about threatening him in some way.

by Anonymousreply 25April 11, 2019 11:58 AM

Trump only hires people who he can use or manipulate. Trump has something on Barr, just like Trump has something on Ms. Graham.

by Anonymousreply 26April 11, 2019 12:17 PM

Barr is in place to protect the GOP. Trump is part of the GOP. They all have criminal activity to hide.

by Anonymousreply 27April 11, 2019 12:19 PM

No, in Graham's case Lindsey saw a golden opportunity to be the top adviser to POTUS. He believes he is some Great Influencer and he runs to Trump every time there's a crisis, which is at least twice a week, to "advise him" on how to navigate it. Graham has never had so much access or influence before in his career. And now he is also Chair of Judiciary and he will make sure he leverages that.

by Anonymousreply 28April 11, 2019 12:22 PM

I think Barr was given a big Cyprus bank account. Would not surprise me in the least if the CIA hasn't secretly asked a foreign IC agency to keep an eye on him.

by Anonymousreply 29April 11, 2019 1:15 PM

Take messy Assange to jail. Ewww!

Hopefully, his cat will be given a new, caring home.

by Anonymousreply 30April 11, 2019 1:16 PM

Something appears very fishy about Barr's behavior.

by Anonymousreply 31April 11, 2019 1:19 PM

Maybe all his "spying" talk was a warning to the Intelligence Community for "Don't spy on me."

by Anonymousreply 32April 11, 2019 1:21 PM
This is Trump. The guy we keep reading about how much the Republicans in Congress hate behind closed doors

Just maybe you listened too much to the anonymous sources whispering to CNN and MSNBC and forgot neither network was working an agenda more than am actual news operation.

by Anonymousreply 33April 11, 2019 1:25 PM

I don't know why he would want to do this. He wasn't MAGA from the beginning. He didn't have a score to settle with Obama like Flynn. From all accounts, he seemed to be an old-timely republican in the Dick Cheney mold - evil but basically done with politics. He could have worked at his law firm and made more money but he most likely has more than enough money to do whatever he wants in retirement. From watching him, he seems to have quite an ego so my only idea is major $$$$ which would set up his family for generations or OLD WHITE MAN NEEDING RELEVANCE AND ATTENTION syndrome.

by Anonymousreply 34April 11, 2019 1:26 PM

The House could file obstruction of justice charges against the AG and then subpoena the Mueller Report and all supporting evidence including Grand Jury Testimony as evidence/disclosure. Dems need to learn to play the game.

by Anonymousreply 35April 11, 2019 1:52 PM

Barr's laying the groundwork for QAnon 2: the Clintons trying to label Trump as a traitor and crook as a Deep State false flag to distract from that child brothel being run out of the basement of that D. C. pizzeria that doesn't seem to have a basement because it's actually in the fourth dimension.

by Anonymousreply 36April 11, 2019 1:59 PM

Rick Wilson nails it. This is brilliant and he 's pissed that the Democrats aren't more aggressive, which is what I've meant in my recent posts. Wilson says the should have been in court to get the Mueller report, and they need to stop looking at this as simply political and procedural. They need a sense of urgency!

I agree but I do think they need to give Barr the opportunity to release his version to them and once he has given them a multicolored document that is redacted beyond recognition, then it is time to go all barrels. Give him enough rope to hand himself. Also, I think his time needs to be about up on when this version is due. He said middle of April and I'd be calling for it on April 15th.

by Anonymousreply 38April 11, 2019 2:12 PM

Did Reagan, Cheney, et al every go to jail for their crimes? Nope. Americans were tortured while they played their contra games and they got away with it.

Who does the DL predict will be the fall guy for this administration? Who will die for this puke?

by Anonymousreply 39April 11, 2019 2:15 PM

Thank you, OP, for another great thread title. W&W for every one.

by Anonymousreply 40April 11, 2019 2:16 PM

Yes, thank you OP. I still want to take you out for a drink despite the disgusting picture in the main post!

by Anonymousreply 41April 11, 2019 2:27 PM

THis is an extremely enlightening and important read. We need to know how they are all fucking with our brain. Trump is getting all the attention. But he is not calling the shots. He is the lead actor center stage, but there is a broader much more sinister strategy being employed and we need to start paying attention.

The other thing I want to say is NO. We do not wait for the redacted report. Congress requested the unredacted report for a reason. They must insist on it and WTF they are not in court demanding it is mystifying to me. I want to know why they are not in court RIGHT fucking NOW. What or who is holding them back????? If Nadler is not up to this tell them to get another chair who is. I want to see aggressive action.

Mnuchin, one of the financial operatives of the 2008 meltdown and taxpayer bailouts of the big banks. Many folks lost their savings, while reckless CEOs received billions in bonuses.

Zero prosecutions.

by Anonymousreply 43April 11, 2019 2:46 PM

I told Barr I must have any surveillance pics of Corter Paige not so dressed.

by Anonymousreply 44April 11, 2019 2:53 PM

There were some prosecutions, but for the most part the laws on the books prevented a more vigorous prosecution of the perps from the 2008 crisis. That was the problem. They were unethical as hell. But a lot of what they did was not illegal. Eric Holder said many times he wanted very much to prosecute but was handicapped by the law.

by Anonymousreply 45April 11, 2019 2:59 PM

^^^and every law that had been put in place since in order to prevent it from happening again has systematically been undone by Trump and the GOP.

by Anonymousreply 46April 11, 2019 4:11 PM

So Trump has instructed DOJ to go after all his perceived enemies and and Barr is willingly taking those orders. Avenetti hit with new charges today. There is not an ounce of integrity in any of these "public servants." Thank God I got out of the Federal Government in the Bush era.

by Anonymousreply 47April 11, 2019 4:20 PM

I don't think Barr is being blackmailed etc. He volunteered that memo against the investigation as an "audition" - he actively sought Trump's attention.

I think he's on a power trip and wants to be the Grey Cardinal behind Trump.

by Anonymousreply 48April 11, 2019 4:28 PM

by Anonymousreply 49April 11, 2019 4:37 PM

I'm very dismayed reading twitter. Whenever a big event happens I like to see the top 50 or so responses. From what I read when I typed on #Assange (which is trending obviously), most of them are AGAINST his arrest! it's a mix of right winger Americans and then Europeans! The Europeans are praising him for the stuff he revealed about the Bush years. The right wingers aren't saying it out loud but obviously they're happy he worked with Putin and Trump in 2016.

WTF. Very few responses made it to the top 50 replies that were in favor of his arrest.

I don't understand how the Europeans aren't upset that he was working with Putin. Unless the bots made sure pro-Assange comments were in the top 50 we first see when we click his name.

Even Ron Paul (Rand Paul's father) is against the arrest

by Anonymousreply 50April 11, 2019 5:06 PM

It's bots and trolls, r50.

They've taken over the site.

by Anonymousreply 51April 11, 2019 5:10 PM

Well, even the ACLU seems upset over the US's plans to charge him.

by Anonymousreply 52April 11, 2019 5:11 PM

Well according to Barbara McQuade who I absolutely respect, she said the DoJ was very smart about the charges. They indicted him for hacking, so t hey avoid all the bullshit about free speech, etc. Good. So that disarms a lot of his defenders. And he was smearing feces on the walls of the embassy! I'd arrest him for that alone. Gross sick little fucker.

by Anonymousreply 53April 11, 2019 5:13 PM

Did you guys hear about that fat, closeted drunk Rep. Matt Gaetz filing a bill called the “PENCIL Act”? Preventing Extreme Negligence with Classified Information Licenses Act designed to force the removal of Adam Schiff (and clearly invoking Trump’s “pencil-neck” taunt). I’m surprised that cunt could put the bottle down long enough to file this.

by Anonymousreply 54April 11, 2019 5:15 PM

R51 the bots may have bumped up the likes and replies but most of the top 50 I read were from real people with blue check marks in Europe and US. Not sure why so many in Europe are crying about freedom of press. What about freedom from Putin?

by Anonymousreply 55April 11, 2019 5:16 PM

So now they think they can pass bills and retroactively go after people with it?

by Anonymousreply 56April 11, 2019 5:16 PM

Gaetz really needs his ass kicked and I'm not even a violent person. It's infuriating a brat who was arrested multiple times for DUIs and bailed out by his daddy is now able to act like a clown in our government

by Anonymousreply 57April 11, 2019 5:17 PM

You ain't seen nothing yet. The "exoneration" Barr put out here they're riding the wave. They're overreaching but no one is stopping them. So get ready for more prosecutions more investigations more blacklisting, more personal attacks. Just pray this regime doesn't get re elected, because this is the beginning and it will definitely get worse and we will be living with a repressive, fascist government. A fucking Police State. No exageration.

by Anonymousreply 58April 11, 2019 5:20 PM
and every law that had been put in place since in order to prevent it from happening again has systematically been undone by Trump and the GOP.

So laws can be made and rescinded?

And that’s the way it goes?

Every time the party majority switches up, the law changes back?

So how can we move forward as a nation which provides its citizens an opportunity to strive for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness if we’re constantly taking one step forward/two steps back?

We have to not count on laws to protect that unalienable right, but rather make them constitutional amendments - have I got that right?

And that would require a constitutional convention - something we absolutely DO NOT WANT to happen with a GOP majority in the senate.

Just hoping the pendulum swings democratic, and then dems doing good stuff while in control is absolutely not enough.

Besides the good stuff they have to amend the constitution for the inevitable time pirates such as the GOP win a future election.

Have I got this right?

by Anonymousreply 59April 11, 2019 5:21 PM

R59, no, going near the Constitution is a bad idea — it’s something the right wing pushes, which should tell you something. It’s better to have your judges on the Supreme Court. And to do that, you need to win elections, and keep on winning them.

by Anonymousreply 60April 11, 2019 5:28 PM

I ask this in all honesty: What do the GOP want? Would they go so far as to try and put people in concentration camps? They’re practically already building them. Do they really want a U.S. that resembles Gilead in “The Handmaid’s Tale” where people have no rights or freedoms and “others” are all under the control of white men? I mean, there is something just so pathologically sick about the entire party at this point. They are horrifying and have dropped all pretense that they care what people think. Public opinion used to mean something but when you have Russia fixing the vote totals, why even bother to care about voters’ needs/desires?

by Anonymousreply 61April 11, 2019 5:33 PM

No, it depends on how laws are written. If a law is written well, and there are safeguards then it can stand the test of time and challenges. For example you can make sure the law stays in the books for ten or 15 or 20 years before it comes up for re-authorization. You know for years both Medicare and Social Security were under attack. From the moment they were put into effect. But they're still around. I hope we do take a path toward a more progressive socialist leaning government. When I look at how well things work in Europe for the most part, I think we could be a real model. And Canada too.

I think Mueller kept giving them lenient deals because he wanted them to be as cooperative as possible.

I agree however, it's all pointless if nothing happens to the "biggest fish" which are Trump, Pence, Don Jr and Jared.

We know the other factor in weighing sentences is to discourage that behavior again. I don't know how effective that is

by Anonymousreply 78April 11, 2019 7:15 PM

So this one is a wash. We lose Manchin's seat and gain Susan Collins' seat. They deserve each other. Neither one has an ounce of backbone.

by Anonymousreply 79April 11, 2019 8:14 PM

Manchin is a DINO...always has been.

by Anonymousreply 80April 11, 2019 8:15 PM

I think Sen. Manchin’s calculations are worth it. He’s there for the Democrats when his vote counts (saving healthcare), throws a bone to his electorate when it doesn’t (Kavanaugh), and he won in a Trump +40 state. I don’t think we could do better in WV than him.

Collins occupies a winnable seat, on the other hand.

by Anonymousreply 81April 11, 2019 8:22 PM

Ok, R81 I accept your analysis. We need to win the senate to stop McConnell.

by Anonymousreply 82April 11, 2019 8:27 PM

Manchin's seat is needed by Democrats to take control of the Senate, and for Democrats to control committees. With Trump carrying WV by the greatest margin compared to other states, he walks a fine line in not alienating the state's Democratic base, while not generating vigorous opposition from Republicans.

Manchin's and Collins are friends, and both do the "concern" acts for political posturing and getting courted from both sides

Manchin's got re-elected last year. Collins is the one whose vulnerable seat is in play. Supporting Kavanaugh will hurt her among other things. A good Democratic candidate can take that seat

by Anonymousreply 83April 11, 2019 8:52 PM

Susan Collins is a DYKE.

by Anonymousreply 84April 11, 2019 8:54 PM

R87 .

by Anonymousreply 88April 11, 2019 9:21 PM

I totally agree, r87.

I also think this "spy" nonsense is an attempt to create a clean slate of sorts. Barr knows there is some serious shit in Mueller’s report (regarding dark money and the GOP maybe) and he also knows it’s going to come out. And so he’s going to find some random Democrat to tar and feather just so he and his cronies can shrug and say both sides are "equally guilty" and thus neutralize the scandal.

Or so he hopes. But this both siderism crap will NOT stand.

Why do you think Barr DID audition so hard to become Trump's AG, r48? Someone has kompromat on HIM. That someone made sure Trump would not be able to resist nominating such a kissass to be Trump's AG. That put Barr in the catbird seat of being able to shitcan the Mueller investigation and protect everyone who Mueller was on the way to indicting - everyone whose palms had been crossed with Russian, Israeli, Saudi, Chinese, etc., etc., money.

by Anonymousreply 91April 11, 2019 10:07 PM

Whatever happened to Reality Winner?

by Anonymousreply 92April 11, 2019 10:36 PM

my fear is that Barr will launch a second special counsel to probe into the origins of the investigation into the Trump campaign. Most likely there wouldn't be anything chargeable but it would further help Trump/Fox "News" narrative that "the real story" is the "deep state conspiring to take down Trump". Then when nothing was found, they would say "oh a coverup!"

so this thing we keep hoping for, that the truth will emerge and be accepted by all IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. It's only going to get worse with Barr as AG.

By the time 2020 November comes we'll be even more divided than ever.

by Anonymousreply 96April 11, 2019 11:24 PM

R91, that doesn't make sense to me. If someone had something on Barr, why would they need him to "audition," to become AG? If he was put in to help Dotard, there's no need for him to audition for him. He'd just be put in.

The house needs to open their own “spygate” inquiry to parallel Barr’s. Do so publicly and with great fanfare. Swear in everyone and loudly proclaim party status for each and every republican they interview. Keep Barr honest and embarrass him as much as possible. Republicans caused this, they promoted it, they investigated it and they wrote the final report. Let them own the whole thing

by Anonymousreply 100April 12, 2019 12:28 AM

Oh and messaging - we need to call it “the Republican spygate scandal” and always say that it was started by republicans in response to republican criminal behavior

by Anonymousreply 101April 12, 2019 12:35 AM

Barr was approached probably by Graham or giuliani or someone else, to be a member of Trump's personal defense team. He turned them down. But he wrote a 19 page brief on why he thought the whole Mueller thing was outrageous and why Trump could never be charged with obstruction. They considered that as his"audition" to be AG.

Maybe it's as simple as his Republican cronies in the Senate being in a position to steer business to his firm. Maybe it was about helping his daughter and son in law expand their circle of lucrative connections for future use.Maybe it was because he is a rigid extremist when it comes to PResidential powers and he is part of the coven.

by Anonymousreply 102April 12, 2019 12:35 AM

...OR....he could be a staunch GOP operative who "auditioned" for the role by showing Trump exactly what he would do to protect him. Look at Iran-Contra...every one of them belonged in prison, but they all walked.

At the end of the day we will win. It is clear now things will get really bad before they get better. We are going to the edge, it appears, unless some hero springs forth suddenly and stops this shitshow in its tracks.

But we will win. They don't have the numbers on their side. We do. Don't count on the SC, or other judges, or billionaires, or the media. It will be the every day person who tips this in our favor. It sucks but at least we have an entire, reenergized Democratic party full of all ages, races, sexualites, ideologies, generations, experience. They have none of that. None. The Dems truly represent the entire country. They represent farmvilles in the middle and backward hellholes in the extreme south. They are losing their grip on places like TX, GA and even KS. FUCK them to hell.

They think they've put things in place to safeguard themselves but the tipping point for the citizens is coming. Capitalism has become too greedy to help the average person. People are turning to drugs more often. However, I do think they will wake up soon and see the GOP has fucked them openly at every turn. The GOP will overreach badly (my guess on SS and Medicare) and all hell will break loose on them. There won't be a fucking gerrymandered district safe enough for these evil black souls when we reach that tipping point.

The more they redact the report, the worse it will be for them. Polls show that a big majority want to see the report unredacted. They're going to be wondering what was redacted, and why. With no explanation forthcoming from the administration, people's imaginations will fill those gaps.

This will be Trump's undoing, mark my words.

Lori Laughlin and Felicity Huffman may get more time in jail than Mike Flynn. That doesn't seem right.

by Anonymousreply 127April 12, 2019 12:49 PM

Trump will resign in the near future. They are holding back an indictment on Junior to hold it over his head and push him out the door. It's the reason for his uptick in insanity lately. He knows the end is near and he's acting out on an unimaginable level. Barr has no doubt already explained to him that he can only hold off on the indictments for just so long. He can only hold off on the House Democrats seeing both him taxes and the Mueller report for so long. Mnuchin may be a bit of an idiot, but even he's not going to risk going to jail for Trump.

When Trump leaves, he will feel seriously ill-used by the Republicans. He'll take what's left of his three brain cells and start a media empire and take his trashy base with him, letting one of his offspring run for president just to split the GOP vote and destroy them for a decade or so. He is the most petty, vindictive man on earth.

David Cay Johnson explains the law requiring IRS to turn over the tax returns in the Daily Beast today:

Donald Trump and his top White House aide declare that the administration will not give the president's tax returns to Congress, as required under a 1924 anti-corruption law. But both the Treasury secretary and the tax commissioner have been much more nuanced, saying that they will obey the law even as they delay actually doing so.

I know why Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and Charles Rettig, the IRS commissioner, are so cautious. They don’t want to be removed from office and sent to prison for five years just for doing Trump’s bidding. The reason will no doubt surprise those who think Trump can thumb his nose at the law governing congressional access to anyone’s tax returns, including his. It will for sure shock Trump, who claims that "the law is 100 percent on my side."

The exact opposite is true.

Under Section 6103 of our tax code, Treasury officials “shall” turn over the tax returns “upon written request” of the chair of either congressional tax committee or the federal employee who runs Congress's Joint Committee on Taxation. No request has ever been refused, a host of former congressional tax aides tell me.

There is, however, a law requiring every federal “employee” who touches the tax system to do their duty or be removed from office. The crystal-clear language of this law applies to Trump, acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, Mnuchin and Rettig, federal employees all.

The law says all of them "shall" be removed from office if they fail to comply with the request from Representative Richard Neal, the Massachusetts Democrat who chairs the House Ways and Means Committee. There are no qualifiers in Section 6103 that shield Trump from delivering, in confidence, his tax returns to Congress. No wiggle room at all.

I marvel at the disconnect between the white supremacist republican party and what I see around me in daily life. I live in a very blue region and every day I see liberals (the majority), and more than a few conservatives, the LGBT community, races and religions, atheists and Buddhist, Jews, Catholics Protestants, and Muslims, going about their business in work and play. Low crime rates, civility, creativity, joy, amazing food from many cultures, and a deep concern for people overall. An appreciation for the environment and active protection of it, avid interest in politics and strong actions to protect democracy. Every day. There are problems, of course. Housing is very expensive and we have our share of the homeless. Why? People move here from all over the US and the world.

What fucking world do those sick republican fucks live in that can be better than this? We must defeat them and recreate this country into place that makes room for everyone, as long as we can live peacefully and respectfully together. An autocratic theocracy is never an answer. Of course we need reasonable immigration polices, not the horror show trump has made worse at the border with his cruelty and hatred. Who are we as a nation if we can't do that? by Anonymousreply 154April 12, 2019 6:39 PM

r135, it is the planet of RICH white people.

by Anonymousreply 155April 12, 2019 6:47 PM
Your idea that asylum seekers will somehow do agricultural jobs the trump administration will not allow migrant agricultural workers to do is ridiculous.

You're completely wrong. Of course if they just release people into the streets those people are going to go where the jobs are that they can do to survive. They aren't going to just huddle in the alleys in Seattle and San Francisco. The rich Repug owners of the huge agricultural companies need people, right now, to pick their crops for almost no pay. It's the new Repug slavery. Do you really think that they are going to release them and then go gather a bunch of them up to be right back to where they started? They lost too much money when those crops, mostly in the South, rotted in the fields. The Repugs aren't going to let their rich corporate friends take that loss again.

by Anonymousreply 156April 12, 2019 6:48 PM

This whole situation at the border is scary as fuck. We can’t take in everyone. The amount of homeless I see in my city is overwhelming. I have a parent who is 86 I am helping. Where do all these people go and how will they make a living?

by Anonymousreply 157April 12, 2019 7:32 PM

Trump created the panic at the border and now everyone wants to cross because he is threatening to close it. Today he is sending more troops. 5000 unaccompanied minors. How do we as taxpayers pay for this?

by Anonymousreply 158April 12, 2019 7:40 PM

R158 Exactly, by announcing he's building a wall or closing the border, he's just agitating for people to rush to get in.

by Anonymousreply 159April 12, 2019 7:46 PM

No, it’s actually not, R157.

I LIVE in a border town and I’ve never been scared or feared for my life. Many churches and centers are providing for the people that they can provide for.

by Anonymousreply 160April 12, 2019 8:03 PM

by Anonymousreply 164April 12, 2019 8:22 PM

The Trump administration lies and exaggerates so much, how do we know what the actual number of immigrants coming across our borders really are? I do not take Trump at his word that it's literally thousands pouring in.

by Anonymousreply 165April 12, 2019 8:23 PM

R161 by staying true to American values and processing them according to our immigration laws. A big step would be to fill judgeships for immigration hearings.

Next, get busy demonstrating to those immigrants why their choice to apply for asylum here was the right thing to do--show mercy and compassion while shepherding them into citizenship, education, employment and paying taxes to the government in which they have found solace.

Next, have a rational discussion with younger, forward-thinkers as to where those people are needed most for work, for seeding populations in dying cities, military service, etc. There are many lessons to be learned from the Great Depression about moving people and populations, re-imagining land and building usage, placement of government resources...

Next, demand that our elected leaders understand diplomacy and the value of positive partnerships with those countries to give alternatives to drug cartels, military support and begin exporting the American Dream as we did following WW2.

Problem is, the racists, deconstructionists and white supremacists have degraded culture and civility so that their members do not want the America we grew up in--flawed and imperfect but at least moving toward justice for all. It has become clear that they see justice, money and power as reasonable for only white people. We will either stamp this out now or our country's changing demographics will stamp this out in the future.

But it will be stamped out and our culture will rightsize. Have faith. In the mean time, if you have the means to help then send money, protest or wring your hands elsewhere. We have work to do here.

by Anonymousreply 166April 12, 2019 8:36 PM

Nicole Wallace had Donny Deutsch on today. He read all the Characteristics of a sociopath and of course, Trump fits them all. He said we need to stop analyzing it and start being very afraid because Trump will stop at nothing. It was a great segment.

Does anybody else think that Stephen Miller is a self-hating, closeted homosexual? Seems so obvious.

by Anonymousreply 169April 12, 2019 8:46 PM

I saw it, r168. Never thought I'd see the day when I'd consider a former Bushie must-see TV, but Nicole Wallace is the only MSNBC host whose show I unfailingly watch. She was downright eloquent today in her introduction to Al Sharpton. Her articulate loathing of Trump and his minions, and her ability to frame it so as to inform and educate viewers, are things of beauty. Her guests are also great.

by Anonymousreply 170April 12, 2019 8:47 PM
Does anybody else think that Stephen Miller is a self-hating, closeted homosexual?

I'm more inclined to buy this perspective, courtesy of Rick Wilson:

This morning as Stephen Miller anointed himself in the tears of immigrant children, he stared into the mirror, smiled, and whispered, "You're next, Jared. Mark my words...you're next."

The camera pulls back and we see a room in which every wall is covered in pictures of Ivanka.

by Anonymousreply 171April 12, 2019 8:48 PM

Donny Deutsch also just really praised Pete B.( can't remember how to spell his last name) I also think Pete B is a real stateman and would be a great president and I am a straight woman so its not because I'm gay.

by Anonymousreply 172April 12, 2019 8:55 PM

I await Stephen Miller's vengeance once he realises Trump would never let him have Ivanka.

by Anonymousreply 173April 12, 2019 9:04 PM

Stupid Stephen. It's not Jared keeping you from the world's greatest courtesan. You can't afford her gilded snatch, those jewel encrusted tits, that porcelain ass. Just give it up. You may have been able to scam your way there as a fake Saudi, but we know that's out of the question.

by Anonymousreply 174April 12, 2019 9:08 PM

R170 I, too, really like Nicole Wallace and I'm about as liberal as it gets. She seems smart and has a great perspective from being in the Bush White House. She also has smart guests which she engages and gets really interesting discussions going.

by Anonymousreply 175April 12, 2019 9:09 PM

R166, Trump is really stupid because he could use the immigrant crisis to pack the courts with the most immigrant hating young judges he could possibly find, getting them to refuse every application for decades into the future. Then they could quietly send them all back and it would be going through the system, so it would be very hard to reverse if not impossible.

Instead there aren’t enough judges at all, so there’s a backlog.

by Anonymousreply 176April 12, 2019 9:15 PM

I also admire the fact that Nicole seemed totally disgusted by Steve Schmidt's deal with the devil (aka Howard Schultz) --- she clearly seems to get how important it is to go full charge against Trump. I'm guessing she truly understands what the whole Palin debacle cost us as a country

by Anonymousreply 177April 12, 2019 9:17 PM

Here here, R166, excellent post.

I have only one more thing to add: train them in healthcare and counseling for opiate addiction, send them forward, once they gain citizenship, into the red states and counties to help.

We are here for each other. Let everyone benefit.

by Anonymousreply 178April 12, 2019 9:20 PM

R177 Nicole can't stand Palin. She was the one who tried to educate Palin. At the end she walked away and said "don't ever put me in the room with her again" It was in the movie Game Change.

"Lindsey was like a son to John." My goodness.

Trump has trashed Republicans that have not agreed with him, and his party brethern think it's fine, even if they are family and friends of those trashed, living or deceased. That's quite cultish behavior.

Let him release the asylum seekers to sanctuary cities. They will be supported by groups like Lutheran Immigration and Refugee services while their cases are heard and as they get settled. LIRS will redirect their economic activity to where the asylum seekers are. Then the immigrants will stay in those areas and create jobs at a higher rate and commit crimes at a lower rate than the native born.

by Anonymousreply 187April 12, 2019 10:15 PM

I will never forgive conservatives for letting this happen. Ever. I will never trust a conservative again. Fingers crossed no one ever buys the bullshit "Conservatives are for the rule of law, the Constitution, blah blah blah" every again. They were never for those things. A few true believers got suckered into it but the vast majority of conservatives are just black souls.

by Anonymousreply 195April 12, 2019 10:54 PM

R188 gets it. If anyone ever actually listened to what republicans/conservatives habe said, and read between the lines, they'd know what's happening now was always the goal. Americans aren't the sharpest tools in the shed. They can only see what's on the surface. They saw someone with Americans flags all over their front yard and car and think "wow they really love this country". No, dumby. They love WHAT THEY LOVE about this country and what it does to strictly benefit them and restrict others. Now I know this is a general statement but we all know these people. The only freedom they believed in was their own. This has been creeping up on us for a while now. Social media then gave them the loid voice they've been craving. Mix that with faux news & reality TV and bam. Here we are.

Dangling a pardon for breaking the law seems to me to be: Obstruction of justice, Abuse of Power and failure to uphold the constitution (laws of the land). That should be impeachable all by itself. It certainly would have applied to Clinton or Obama.

by Anonymousreply 211April 13, 2019 1:03 AM

2. Asylum seekers are not agricultural workers.

3. E verify is a federal system put in place to verify people working within the US have legal standing to do so. You may not know of this system, but it's real.

4. Trump placing people in sanctuary cities would not make them "legal". Only an immigration Ct can decided their status,

Nothing you have written is accurate.

5. You can verify my claims by actually googling.

As with the above Posted by R217 trump is counting on ignorance and stupidity to stir shit up.

by Anonymousreply 218April 13, 2019 2:49 AM

Putting numbers in front of your bullshit doesn't legitimize it. He cannot 'place' them in the country without a legal hearing. They are seeking asylum, not illegally entering and detained in a holding cell until being deported.

E-verify is available for those farmers and agencies that keep track of the visas issued. It only works if the person is found or standing in front of you trying to work. Otherwise, you have an illegal who has overstayed their visa. I know of a farm or two, in CA, right now, where they have little villages of illegals camped out on the property. It's a common practice and they are virtually held as slaves. No one should favor this arrangement and the ones doing it are Republican, like Nunes, or Pete of Pete's Greens (yes indeed, and I've seen the trucks he transports them in).

You spew what you think liberals and democrats think when you have no clue. I'd say you have the problem with accuracy.

No one said asylum seekers were ag workers....what was said was that ag workers are brought into this country under legally issued visas and under strict quotas and conditions. Those who bring in illegals for the same purpose are breaking the law. They need to be prosecuted and the illegals deported.

Only one thing you said was true and hardly worth googling because you admitted you were wrong.

by Anonymousreply 219April 13, 2019 3:15 AM

R219, all these people with these ridiculous ideas about aliens live on the east coast or someplace where they’ve never seen a Mexican or South American up close and have no idea what they’re doing here.

99% of the illegals in the United States live here because rich Republican employers want to use them as slaves or scabs to break unions and lower pay for American workers. Stop the rich Republicans, almost every illegal would go back where they came from tomorrow. Even Trump does it and has been caught red-handed. Nobody’s doing jack shit to him either.

by Anonymousreply 220April 13, 2019 4:06 AM

R219, you're the stupidest fucking asshole on this thread. Your entire argument starts with the premise that Trump will follow the law. He wants to illegally dump the asylum seekers in blue cities. Illegally. Do you understand that word, moron? Those people will have to find a way to survive after their dumping without papers. They will find jobs anywhere they can and we ALL (except you) know exactly where those jobs are. They are with Trump's rich friends across the country.

by Anonymousreply 221April 13, 2019 6:24 AM

Cheap Labor Conservatives lured illegals here to break unions and pad their wallets. It is why Reagan and HW Bush actually gave amnesty.

Deplorables are mad at the wrong party and ideology. I get they will never see eye to eye with liberals on social issues but their reps do not fear them. Deplorables are actually economic liberals- they want infrastructure, SS, Medicare, higher minimum wage......they need to just once or twice vote out their crazy GOP reps and demand the 1% not own 90% of the wealth. That is not sustainable in any way. It is economic suicide. 99% own just 10% of the wealth. That is absolutely the reason rural America is hurting. If they put the fear of God into their GOP reps who take their votes for granted, shit would get done. This is why conservatives go all out to make them HATE liberals. They know, on economic policy, they would embrace liberals completely.

by Anonymousreply 223April 13, 2019 10:37 AM

Oh for goodness sake so much stupidity on this thread right now.

1) asylum seekers are here legally, but not allowed to work here legally.

2) asylum seekers need to stay by where their cases are being adjudicated so unless their are big farms in San Francisco they aren’t likely to be anywhere near a farm.

3) asylum seekers are supported by non-profits while their cases are heard.

4) e-verify is real and its use ought to universally enforced but isn’t. But many places do conscientiously use it.

5) you’d need to live in Russia to think people on the East Coast don’t interact with people from Latin America.

R224, the asylum seekers will be represented by a laywer who most certainly will send advanced notification of hearing dates. Every blue state has an area requiring agricultural workes. Napa at the very least has vineyards. Landscapers are needed as are nannies, housekeepers, restaurant workers, and day laborers, all able to fly under the radar. They will find employment. Of course it all bears repeating, can't be done enough. But at one level this is like some dreadful father whom everyone in the family knows is insane, keeps on shifting the narrative to suit his clownish ego, and has enough power and means to do so. He knows he can wear others down by the will of his insanity.

None of which is any reason not to resist and challenge by all possible means.

Of course we can't give up fighting this crap. Each Dem we help elect, local or state or federal puts another piece of the blue wall in place. And we are winning the local seats.

by Anonymousreply 247April 13, 2019 5:32 PM

R242, I agree. The Democrats do nothing and they are letting Trump and his lackey's get away with it. They know that the Democrats are all talk and won't do a damn thing and they're laughing at them (and us) right in front of their faces. It's going to take a few brave whistleblowers to leak the Mueller report and Trump's taxes and get it out there ad bring Trump down. I'm going to do my part and vote for every Democrat that I can, but I have lost faith in them.

by Anonymousreply 248April 13, 2019 5:33 PM

R242 here. I think we have to keep our foot up their asses. Yes, R248, I agree with you, we need to keep electing Democrats on every level, and I love the new members of Congress like AOC and others who have not been beaten down into bureaucrats. We have to push back and keep fighting. But once we elect the Democratswe have to keep pushing them. We need to be calling Pelosi, Nadler and Neal and others in the Democratic House caucus and put pressure on them. They need to be afraid of us. I know if we push hard, they will do the right thing. But if we just leave them to it, they will keep "investigating" and "holding hearings" and sending letters. At some point we need action and we have to make it real clear.

by Anonymousreply 249April 13, 2019 5:37 PM

Want to add that the worst thing that can happen is for the GOP to keep playing games and dragging this out, and the Democrats keep fucking around until in 2020 a lot of people with get discouraged and just stay home. It could happen. If we don't get action soon, apathy will set in. Thankfully Trump does something ugly and outrageouos every damned week, so he will keep us angry and energized, but we need people to stay hopeful about the COngress. We need a huge turn out to get the Senate we need and to hold the House.

Michael Steele, former RNC Chair and MSNBC contributor, on Chris Mathews with DNC Chair, Perez, was asked yesterday who he thought would win the 2020 election. Steele responded that in terms of predicting today, he believed Donald Trump would win in a close election. Perez would not give a direct prediction to the same question; rather he spoke about the issues Democrats intent to show focus and the energy being generated in the Democratic Party.. Steele has been a moderate critic of Trump, but I was a bit surprised at his definitive sounding tone in actually verbalizing his perceived outcome at this point. Hope he will be proven wrong. Maybe he will later change his view in due time.

ABC’s Jonathan Karl revealed on Sunday that officials at the White House now know what’s in the Mueller report.

“They have been briefed but I’m told in broad brush strokes,” Karl explained. “They’ve been briefed enough to know that the White House will not invoke executive privilege to try to get further redactions. But there is significant concern on the president’s team about what will be in this report."

“Even the stuff that will be un-redacted?” ABC News host George Stephanopoulos asked.

“Yes,” Karl clarified. “There is significant concerns about what will be in here — new information — on the obstruction of justice question, what the president was doing regarding some of the big questions. What worries them most is what [former White House counsel] Don McGahn told the special counsel. It was reported that he spent 30 hours before the special counsel. I’m told significantly more than 30 hours.”

And there is reason for the White House to be concerned. According to Karl, no one on the president’s legal team ever debriefed McGahn about what he told the special counsel.

I'm not impressed with Mueller. Why the fuck did he let a known pathological liar testify to written questions for the simple reason that Trumps crooke3d lawyers said they feared that Trump would perjure himself if he had to answer questions in person? Why did Mueller no interview Don Jr-or if he did why was jr. not indicted-as jr even said he expected to be?. Why did Mueller allow Trump to call him and his team conflicted and angry Democrats and Hannity referred to Mueller and his team as criminals and a mob family. There was zero pushback and Mueller had to know how dangerous DJT and his gang of thugs were with that kind of rhetoric.

Why all the sweetheart deals for Flynn, Papadopoulos and others who we assumed got such deals for cooperating and giving info. It seems to me that Mueller punted on more than just the question of obstruction. I just won't put any faith in any investigators again-and I don't for one second believe that Mueller feared for his life or the lives of family members. He has some "splain' to do-if Congress can put on big grown up panties and get after these traitorous slobs with more vigor. I am not convinced that Mueller's report -even unredacted - will do a damn thing to hold DJT accountable.

by Anonymousreply 293April 14, 2019 8:53 PM

sigh...so I just heard on the news how the tax thing would work if Mnuchin does not comply handing over Trump's taxes. He would then supposed to be prosecuted by the US Attorney of DC. Interesting that CNN is airing the Watergate scandal and Nixon's resignation. It's a good reminder for people. It's amazing how much Trump's path has followed Nixon---except it's a big question as to whether any GOP will follow the same path. There was one die hard GOP Nixon supporter who stuck with him until the tapes came out. Then he supported Nixon's impeachment. Maybe Graham is that same Republican.

The main difference is that Trump isn't smart enough to resign.

I'm expecting all the bad stuff to be redacted. I really expect us only see neutral or non-incriminating material. Barr will claim bs reasons to redact everything negative, saying he doesn't want to put out damaging info about someone who wasn't indicted, while at the same time believing Trump cannot be indicted since he's President.

We know Barr talks in circles. Just like he kept saying during the hearings last week we need to wait for him to release the report before he'll discuss its contents yet he is taking so long to release it

And in the case of Flynn and Gates, stuff that they were still providing until only recently that Mueller was still deeming as valuable. Surely, if it was a trail that was leading to dead ends, Mueller and team would have been aware of this after 6 months (?), 1 year (?!!!) and yet they were continuing to give what was reported as on-going, valuable dirt close to two years in. Is it stuff that is now in the hands of SDNY?

by Anonymousreply 317April 15, 2019 1:32 PM

Seth Abramson points out in Twitter thread below that that contrary to Barr’s statement of no collusion no obstruction, that in fact obstruction is up to Congress to decide, and collusion is the subject of TWENTY ongoing investigations. Those investigations, presumably, are based on information from Flynn, Gates, and others who were given deals.
CONCLUSION/ Media—and Trumpists—want a unified narrative: Trump wins, his critics whine. That's fun for media—or Trumpists—but bears no relation to reality. Reality: Obstruction is in Congress for impeachment consideration; 20 ongoing investigations are looking at collusive acts.

by Anonymousreply 330April 15, 2019 4:59 PM

So, this is the part of the narrative that makes no sense to me. If I’m Flynn, presumably by the time I’m speaking to the FBI, I’ve already had some legal counseling. Given what secrets I have, my counsel has advised me that yes, there is a whole lotta smoke, but no prosecutable fire ( if, and a big if, Barr’s assessment of the report is in any way accurate ) so tell them the truth and, at worst, you’ll get some bullshit probation for failing to report some unethical contacts. But instead, he decides that the risk of being exposed for whatever he’s hiding is greater than the risk of lying to the FBI. So, that tells me that there is something huge there.

Now, Mueller’s job is to catch bigger fish through the use of littler fish. They’re already starting high up on the food chain with security advisor. So, not higher to go other than Trump and family. Flynn is caught lying, starts spilling and Mueller and team decide that not only is Flynn’s stuff good enough but recommend a sweetheart deal despite the judge advising that Flynn be charged with treason! Add to that, during the recent progress report on Flynn and Gates , that their continued cooperation was STILL of value. How could an old pro like Mueller have misread the bread crumbs? DOES NOT COMPUTE!!!!! Even if Barr was pressuring him to wrap it up, they have had at least a year on Barr’s appointment to have gotten the criticals down on this stuff, don’t you think? An old pro like Mueller wasn’t thinking ahead given all the rumors of his impending firing for two years?

by Anonymousreply 331April 15, 2019 5:18 PM

It really is a total mystery to me how the biggest investigation in U.S. history wraps up with such a whimper. I was one of the fangirls who thought that Mueller had a dead man’s switch for almost any outcome, especially with the daily tweet threats from BLOTUS. So, how did we get to this point where most of the report will be redacted and we don’t know anything we didn’t already know. Does anyone really think that there will be anything negative about Trump left unredacted? I do not trust Barr at all. His performance last week was just scary.

I also never bought the whole Mueller-Barr friendship talking point that was being furiously repeated before the report was handed in. It seemed like a right wing meme being circulated to give Barr cover.

by Anonymousreply 332April 15, 2019 5:26 PM

It hasn't whimpered out yet. We'll eventually get to see the unredacted report, then we can actually judge what happened.

by Anonymousreply 333April 15, 2019 5:27 PM

Congress needs the full, unredacted report, and Mueller appears to answer questions following the distribution. The job of Congress is oversight.

Barr has shown he's a Trump lackey. He has no intention to be objective and complete. He will impede as far as he can.

by Anonymousreply 336April 15, 2019 6:10 PM

Isn't it possible that the info from sweetheart deals was passed on by Mueller to the other investigations and that's why we haven't heard more? There's a report that we don't know if Mueller ever looked at Trump's financial information but some of the other investigations are doing that.

Also I saw on tv there's a report that Nunes may have met or planned to meet with Barr before the report's release. I hope that's not fucking true but I kinda expect it at this point

by Anonymousreply 337April 15, 2019 6:10 PM

Don't forget. Every time Mueller wanted to do something, he had to run it passed Rod Rosenstein. That's a fact. Do not overlook that.

by Anonymousreply 344April 15, 2019 10:55 PM

So there were 18 high level prosecutors who gave up almost two years of their lives (and a lot of $$$) to work on an investigation that will result in a Barr Redacted Report that hides anything damaging to Trump and essentially clears him. If I were one of those prosecutors, I'd be looking for the nearest MSNBC, Politico, or Buzz Feed reporter to slip a couple of unredacted pages. One prosecutor may not have the entire report. Mueller may have kept everyone in silos so only a few knew the complexity of the entire report but I wouldn't doubt if we see some unredacted pages start to show up on Friday.

by Anonymousreply 345April 16, 2019 12:04 AM

I can't find it now, but in one of these threads, someone posted that 2020 is already over because Trump raised $30Million in the first quarter for his reelection. Of course no individual Democratic candidate comes close to that yet. But if you add all Democratic candidates together, in the first quarter they raised almost THREE TIMES what Trump has raised.

First quarter 2019:

Trump: $30.1Million

All Democrats Combined: $87Million

Mueller's dead man's switch was farming everything out that he could.

Sure, some of those dates may be under DOJ but the states are standing by with their own charges if round bill tries to shut the federal cases down.

It's too big now and the genie is done out the bottle.

by Anonymousreply 347April 16, 2019 12:52 AM

Barr did the very same thing to Congress in 1989. He wrote an "opinion" while he was in the office of the WH Counsel, justifying the kidnapping of foreigners for something something, and it was the pretext for trapping and kidnapping and arresting Noriega. Congress demanded a copy, wanted him to cite his legal authority, and he said he'd provided them with a "summary of the principal points." Exact words he used about the Mueller report.

Eventually, because they went to court, he had to provide the entire opinion, and it was the shadiest bullshit they'd ever seen. It was practically illegal. preposterous. And yet, Nadler, who ought to know this history, and the top congressional staff to that committee who would also know, realize that the Mueller Report is so much more important, yet no one has gone to court to demand Barr turn over the complete, unredacted report.

Nadler told him they wanted it by a specific date, (April 2nd) and he said, in so many words, "I will give it to you on another date, at my convenience and it will be redacted. " I would have ahd federal marshals arresting his ass. I'd have gone to a judge I'd have subpoenaed that report. Some thing. WTF are there no consequences for such arrogance? I'm truly mystified. And once again the media is hyping the fact that Thursday "the Mueller Report" is dropping. Uh, no, the Barr interpretation of the Mueller report is dropping.

Isn't it almost assured that Mueller, if called to testify before Congress, will not reveal anything from any of the redacted parts because the AG has decided those portions should be redacted and he's too much of a damn boy scout to counter that? I picture a lot of "I can't answer that." or "You'll have to ask Barr." types of answers, even if they are in closed session because he'll do as directed by his "boss".

by Anonymousreply 356April 16, 2019 4:30 AM

R356- I don't get why the redacted parts can't be shared in a closed session. The public can't see those parts, but doesn't Nadler have security clearance? Why wouldn't he be allowed to see the redacted parts?

Also, with a redacted report, do they just black out parts of sentences? Or do they remove whole paragraphs? Because if they're just blacking out parts, couldn't some of the redactions be figured out based on the sentences that come before or after the blacked out parts?

by Anonymousreply 357April 16, 2019 4:40 AM

R357, Barr has said even the committees in congress with top secret security clearance will not be given the unredacted report. I think Mueller will, due to his boy scout ways, will decline to speak about those areas because of Barr being his "boss". He will throw it back to Barr's court, even in closed session, because that's what Barr has decided.

And, they will likely black out entire pages. There have been redacted filings from Mueller before that had page after page of nothing but black and a page number on it.

I think we're going to get a tiny little bit of "bad" because if Barr makes it all look like black bars and sunshine there will be no way to spin that bullshit. But that "bad" will be about people other than Trump. Just watch.

by Anonymousreply 358April 16, 2019 4:50 AM

The Committees are being wise to get the redacted report because then can then compare it for any DELETED pages when it is fully available.

Another path to obstruction.

by Anonymousreply 367April 16, 2019 7:03 AM

Barr is a GOP fixer. He has a long record for such.

Approving him for AG again by the Republican dominated Senate was deliberate for the purpose of ending the Mueller investigation prematurely and protecting Trump and his inner circle from prosecution.

Barr may be an elite attorney within the Republican establishment, but expecting objectivity and serving the nation at-large, are not part of his ethically challenged agenda. Wrong person at the wrong time.

We need to just keep repeating the top 1% have 90% of the wealth. But that is an understatement because it is that dangerous their are no words. Even Bernie, who talks about it a lot, doesn't have anywhere near the level of urgency the matter deserves. 99% of us are fighting over 10% of the wealth. Mind blowing.

by Anonymousreply 387April 16, 2019 11:10 PM

We won't get anything unless the House Dems get access to the full report

by Anonymousreply 388April 16, 2019 11:10 PM

R388 Is there any way for the House to ask a judge to authorize the release of grand jury materials to Congress? That would clear the way for cutting down one of Barr's excuses for his cover up. Letting a biased AG hellbent on protecting the one being investigated be the sole arbiter of that process is a clear conflict of interest.

by Anonymousreply 389April 16, 2019 11:15 PM

I will never get my hopes up of the truth coming out as long as there is a conservative willing to stop it. The truth will come out, I think, in a very abrupt, shocking manner by some hero who is willing to go there if you know what I mean.

by Anonymousreply 390April 16, 2019 11:19 PM

Grand Jury confidentiality is not an "excuse". It's required under the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure and repeatedly upheld by the Supreme Court.
"if preindictment proceedings were made public, many prospective witnesses would be hesitant to come forward voluntarily"; "witnesses who appeared before the grand jury would be less likely to testify fully and frankly"; and "there also would be the risk that those about to be indicted would flee, or would try to influence individual grand jurors". Further, "persons who are accused but exonerated by the grand jury [should] not be held up to public ridicule"

And the congressmen and pundits playing you with "reveal everything" know this.

by Anonymousreply 391April 16, 2019 11:32 PM

Law suits have been filed and the Judge reviewing them is already criticizing Barr for casting a shadow over the findings, etc. I think it will take a couple months (at most) but we're going to see the report in the hands of Congress unredacted. Once Congress has it, it'll leak. LOL!

Well, considering most of the Republicans commenting on the Mueller Report haven’t seen any of it, the fact that they’re getting so worked up means they think Trump is guilty and there’s something awful in there. Obviously they are convinced he’s not innocent, because if he was they’d want everyone to see it.

by Anonymousreply 409April 17, 2019 2:46 AM

R408- She doesn't really believe any of that but it's the only way she's going to get her 15 minutes of fame.

by Anonymousreply 410April 17, 2019 2:50 AM

Isn’t there something in the Bible that specifically forbids worshipping false gods, R408? Didn’t some people in ancient times get in trouble for worshipping a golden calf instead of god? Don’t any of these people read the Bible? Oh yes, here it is:

When Moses went up into Biblical Mount Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments (Exodus 24:12-18), he left the Israelites for forty days and forty nights. The Israelites feared that he would not return and demanded that Aaron make them "gods" to go before them (Exodus 32:1). Aaron gathered up the Israelites' golden earrings and ornaments, constructed a "molten calf" and they declared: "These [be] thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt." (Exodus 32:4)

Aaron built an altar before the calf and proclaimed the next day to be a feast to the LORD. So they rose up early the next day and "offered burnt-offerings, and brought peace-offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play." (Exodus 32:6) God told Moses what the Israelites were up to back in camp, that they had turned aside quickly out of the way which God commanded them and he was going to destroy them and start a new people from Moses. Moses besought and pleaded that they should be spared (Exodus 32:11-14), and God "repented of the evil which He said He would do unto His people."

Moses went down from the mountain, but upon seeing the calf, he became angry and threw down the two Tablets of Stone, breaking them. Moses burnt the golden calf in a fire, ground it to powder, scattered it on water, and forced the Israelites to drink it. When Moses asked him, Aaron admitted collecting the gold, and throwing it into the fire, and said it came out as a calf (Exodus 32:21-24).

The Bible records that the tribe of Levi did not worship the golden calf. When Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said: 'Whosoever is on the LORD's side, let him come unto me.' And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him. And he said unto them: 'Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: Put ye every man his sword upon his thigh, and go to and fro from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.' And the sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses; and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men. (Exodus 32:26-28)

She’s raising Trump to the level of a golden calf. Didn’t end well last time.

Barr told a Senate panel last week he was surprised that Mueller’s report did not contain a vetted summary that he could quickly release to the public.

Instead, he said, every page carried a warning that it contained what he called “6(e) material,” a reference to Rule 6(e) of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, which establishes rules for grand jury secrecy.

That’s among the four categories of protected information that officials are redacting from the report, which is officially titled “Report on the Investigation Into Russian Interference in the 2016 Presidential Election.”

Each category has been assigned a color to identify the reason for each cut or trim, but for now the four hues are as closely guarded as the report’s contents.

Besides grand jury evidence, the categories include classified material from U.S. intelligence agencies or allies, information about ongoing investigations, and details that could “unduly infringe on the personal privacy and reputational interests of peripheral third parties.”

The vague final category raised concerns that prosecutors could try to shield the White House from embarrassing new disclosures. But Barr promised a Senate panel on Wednesday he wouldn’t hide unflattering information about the president.

“I'm talking about people in private life, not public-office holders," he told the Senate Appropriations Committee on Wednesday.

Do we think that the redacted report has gone to Trump so he can make additional changes or do we think that Trump had a pigeon in the redaction group that was solely looking out for his welfare. I know Barr said that he wasn't planning on having any categories as Executive Privilege but he worded that statement in a funny sort of way that gave him wiggle room. As with Mueller, I don't think Barr takes on this role without going full throttle. I expect pages upon pages of redacted material. We know the summaries were designed by Mueller's team to be released so it will be interesting to see how much of those is redacted.

Of course Trump's lawyers or people close to him have been briefed on the report. Probably have not actually seen it, so they can maintain deniability, but they know what's in it. Barr is slime. Rachel said last night, "It will be interesting to see what Barr will "be shoveling our way" on Thursday. She was urging the media to tread cautiously and went through the entire 1989 mess where Barr fucked up in a very controversial way regarding Noriega. The only thing she was careful about was trying not to let too much shit spill on Pappy Bush the "new President." But clearly 41, IMO, was just an Ivy League version of sleaze with better manners.

by Anonymousreply 421April 17, 2019 12:46 PM

by Anonymousreply 422April 17, 2019 1:04 PM

Will Buffet Barr deliver anything on Kompromat? You just know Barr redacted all the content of who was determined or suspected of being compromised. That's the domain whereby certain Republican House and Senate members fear disclosures about themselves, particularly the ones who have been wallowing in oligarch and tainted N-R-A cash.

Trump doesn't know his ass from his elbow when it comes to finding people like Barr. Someone recommended Barr to Trump. it was like discovering gold. There were discussions. Trump wanted him to be part of his defense team. Barr said no. The audition memo, 19 pages, etc. and Barr's own "job interview" to be AG all were orchestrated by people like Rudy, or someone from the Senate. No way would Trump on his own ever consider a former Bush person...unless that person was dirty enough to satisfy him. And Barr certainly is. I Say Graham or Grassley. Graham didn't go to Congress until 1994 election. So maybe someone more familiar with the Bush 41 era. I have to say from their point of view it was a masterstroke to get Barr in there. Rachel says his whole strategy is delay delay delay. He doesn't care if his opinions are challenged or he goes to court. He thinks he can piss away a few years on litigation the political value of the crisis will diminish and no one will care about fallout. At least that's one strategy. LOL! This isn't going to drag out that long.

Trump and his allies have as much concern for regular Americans as Caligula had for peasants.

I despise his allies but also have contempt for the under-educated who believe he's akin to Jesus. Suckers. We live in a country where a broad array of information is available at the touch of a fingertip. People who listen to only right wing "news" sources are upending our democracy.

I keep my faith in the educated and rational of this country who are fighting back against the ignorance and cruelty that sustain trump. Peasants of the oppressed world under dictators were mostly illiterate. We have a literate population, many highly educated, who are still resisting. I can't believe trump has gone as far as he has, his followers need to wake up and pay attention to what they have to lose.

This won't end until the GOP is stripped of power at every level in most states as well as federally. They are rotten crooks to the core. There will be someone in the wings who will be worse than what we currently have. He set the template for what the base wants. There will never be another "normal" GOPer winning a nomination for Pres again. They know the only way to win is to fire up the base with a big, showbiz, entertaining (for some) nominee who will "stick it to the libs" and on and on.

Conservatism does not work and is not popular broken down to individual policies without the platitudes and spin. Center-left is vastly more popular issue by issue on everything. They know it. Forget the "browning of America" bullshit. Even white voters, when the platitudes and spin is not there, actually agree with center-left policies. His base is economically liberal. It is the social issues where they veer very conservative.

Conservatives have carefully and skillfully built this cult mentality precisely because they know their ideology is not palatable to a majority.

RR is either playing a very skilled game setting things up to finally bring this nightmare to an end or he has been compromised.

There will/might be a hero come out of this and it would have to be someone like him in his position. Am I hopeful? No. We will win this in the end but, unless that hero steps forward quickly, we will be taken to the edge. That edge is obviously our very existence as a nation truly following the constitution and rule of law without regard to personal/party/ideological power. There is an absolute panic within the GOP for reasons I outlined in R462. That are frantic.

If Mueller truly is the person so many describe him as, he must be that hero who throws it all away to get the truth out. My only worry is, the same people who vouched for Barr also vouch for Mueller. We shall see..........

by Anonymousreply 472April 17, 2019 11:13 PM

Mueller didn't make summaries.

Barr told a Senate panel last week he was surprised that Mueller’s report did not contain a vetted summary that he could quickly release to the public.

Instead, he said, every page carried a warning that it contained what he called “6(e) material,” a reference to Rule 6(e) of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, which establishes rules for grand jury secrecy.

by Anonymousreply 495April 18, 2019 1:25 AM

The corruption continues unabated.

From the article, "“In 2017, the department reversed course, adopting arguments nearly identical to those put forward by Trump’s private sector lawyers. Instead of defending the republic against foreign influence, the department is defending Trump’s ability to receive money from foreign governments,” Clark added.

A justice department spokesperson declined to comment, but pointed to its filings in the emoluments lawsuits which Clark has noted contain five arguments similar to those used by Trump’s business lawyers. Among the key justice arguments is that the foreign emoluments clause only was intended to prohibit the president accepting gifts and employment compensation from a foreign government, but allows him to benefit from what it calls “commercial transactions”."

by Anonymousreply 497April 18, 2019 1:44 AM

Per WaPo tonight:

Mueller report will be lightly redacted, revealing detailed look at obstruction of justice investigation

By Matt Zapotosky , Carol D. Leonnig , Rosalind S. Helderman and Devlin Barrett April 17 at 8:37 PM The Justice Department plans to release a lightly redacted version of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s 400-page report Thursday, offering a granular look at the ways in which President Trump was suspected of having obstructed justice, people familiar with the matter said.

The report — the general outlines of which the Justice Department has briefed the White House on — will reveal that Mueller decided he could not come to a conclusion on the question of obstruction because it was difficult to determine Trump’s intent and because some of his actions could be interpreted innocently, these people said. But it will offer a detailed blow-by-blow of the president’s alleged conduct — analyzing tweets, private threats and other episodes at the center of Mueller’s inquiry, they added.

Attorney General William P. Barr plans to hold a 9:30 a.m. news conference to address “process questions” and provide an “overview of the report,” a senior Justice Department official said. The report will be delivered on discs to Capitol Hill between 11 a.m. and noon and posted on the special counsel’s website thereafter, the official said.
Chris Matthews was kvetching about how spineless and weak the Democrats have become lately. He has a point. They seem very ineffectual. They’re being steamrolled on the Mueller report just like they were on Merrick Garland.

Just stop. The Democrats are in control of one half of one of three coequal branches of government and are fighting against people that are acting illegally across the board. It a little difficult to take on a group who won't follow the laws when they are also the group that is supposed to be creating, interpreting, and defending those very laws. They are doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing.

As for the Democrats supposedly not being as good at messaging as the Repugs, I call bullshit on that, too. We don't have a state run station like they do in Faux News. You can have a coherent, well-developed, simply understood message but if the corporate Repug owned media won't air it it doesn't matter at all. We have the more liberal leaning side of the media doing the "both sides" thing because that is what they are ethically and professionally required to do. We have Faux News lying their fucking asses off. So, the Repugs get 75% coverage of their message (with Faux acting like Russian media whores) while we might get 25% coverage of ours which is always presented with a counterpoint, even if that counterpoint is a pile of insane Repug lies.

If you lie about everything, every single day, no one believes it when you tell the truth. Maybe Mueller's conclusion was that Trump doesn't have the mental capacity to stand trial. We've all been watching Trump build his insanity defense right before our eyes.

I also don't believe this reporting about it being "lightly redacted". Sounds like more bullshit put out by Trump's team in order to try to define a reality that will very clearly be the exact opposite of what we see with our own eyes. They are gaslighting the world. When we see paragraph after paragraph redacted they'll say, "See, it's only some paragraphs, not whole pages!"

by Anonymousreply 520April 18, 2019 2:55 AM

r513, yeah, I know you're right.

I suppose it's a compliment that Americans seem to hold Dems to a higher standard of lawfulness than Repugs, but still.

by Anonymousreply 521April 18, 2019 3:00 AM

So the Justice Department leaks to the Washington Post that the report is"lightly redacted" and they take it and run with it as if that is the gospel. The truth is we have no idea whether it's light or heavy. We have no idea whether portions have been totally revised and re-written by Barr's people. All we know is that something called the Mueller Report, with Redactions will be released tomorrow, and before anyone has a chance to read it and form an opinion, that report will bespun and interpreted for us by people who cannot be trusted, who have proven themselves to be liars and corrupt pieces of shit.

by Anonymousreply 522April 18, 2019 3:00 AM
We won't know anything more tomorrow, other than be greeted with just how much more Rethugs can lie and cover shit up.

So like most Trump supporters, you've dedicated yourself to wallow in fact-free speculation.

How terribly sad.

by Anonymousreply 523April 18, 2019 3:01 AM

R523 The fact they always lie is not fact-free speculation..........

by Anonymousreply 524April 18, 2019 3:03 AM
So like most Trump supporters, you've dedicated yourself to wallow in fact-free speculation. How terribly sad.

How terribly sad that you apparently aren't aware that Republicunts always lie.

by Anonymousreply 525April 18, 2019 3:05 AM

Call Mueller before the committee, hell, any committee, in open session, and let's hash this little thing out. Also the IRS Commissioner.

by Anonymousreply 526April 18, 2019 3:06 AM

It seems obvious that everyone has been waiting for the Report to come out before they start calling anyone in.... I'm not sure however that that is the best tactic.

Rethugs would not have waited. They would be ahead of it creating the narrative.

by Anonymousreply 527April 18, 2019 3:09 AM

I wonder if redacting is a legal term. Does it mean simply cutting parts out or does it include any type of EDITING. Can Barr change words?

by Anonymousreply 528April 18, 2019 3:10 AM

R527 beat me to it. Shit is going to hit the fan after the redacted report...subpoenas, indictments, leaks and possible impeachment. This pending bullshit tomorrow will make things worse for Barr/Trump - not better. Watch.

by Anonymousreply 529April 18, 2019 3:13 AM

R528 He cannot change words.

by Anonymousreply 530April 18, 2019 3:14 AM
Call Mueller before the committee,

At 9:30 am tomorrow. Counterpunch the AG presser.

by Anonymousreply 531April 18, 2019 3:14 AM

Matthews was saying there was a kind of fatigue setting in. He was referring to the Dems not moving fast and hard to get subpoenas or take them to court. I think it's Nadler. He's old at 72, and he doesn't seem to move with a lot of energy. Now Maxine is old, too, at 81, but she has energy. In fact when you compare Nadler to Cummings and Pelosi and a few others, he just seems slower, as if he's on medication. Interesting to seem how different people age.

by Anonymousreply 533April 18, 2019 3:20 AM

They may be afraid of overreach. I think those fears are wildly overrated in this Trumpista world. Excess is pretty much impossible right now.

by Anonymousreply 534April 18, 2019 3:22 AM

Overreach? What's that?

by Anonymousreply 535April 18, 2019 3:24 AM

Psychics are saying Mueller was paid off...

by Anonymousreply 536April 18, 2019 3:24 AM

It's a new world. I don't mind the democrats using the same nasty tactics that the republicans use. I'm way beyond "We're better than them." This is fighting for the heart and soul of our democracy. Use a little fucking urgency and error on the side of trying to get to the bottom of this as soon as possible.

by Anonymousreply 537April 18, 2019 3:25 AM

Lol I was about to make the Nunes comment but R535 was faster.

Honestly, the Dems should learn from Nunes. Jumping in and out of taxis, hiding in WH bushes under the cloak of night, - the guy is nothing if not dedicated.

A dog with a bone should be the Dem mascot.

by Anonymousreply 538April 18, 2019 3:28 AM

I don't think Mueller was paid off. I do feel very frustrated with the way he has handled this investigation. I know. He was a sphinx. But I think you can take it too far. He should have held his own news conference to say that he was producing a report and here it is. But maybe he couldn't. I feel like he was very likely gagged by Barr and Rosenstein and he must have some pretty important irons in the fire to have given in to them. Of course if he had not he'd have been fired. Barr shut that investigation down, I'm sure of it. It wasn't done abruptly, but Barr probably told him to wrap it up and gave him 30 days. But Mueller is still working. He was seen going to his office two days ago.

by Anonymousreply 539April 18, 2019 3:33 AM

R536 I've thought about that. But wouldn't he have to pay off all the prosecutors working with him as well? I guess if some Russian offers to put $500M in an off shore bank account that can be divided as appropriate, you get a lot of things.

by Anonymousreply 540April 18, 2019 3:34 AM

I don't understand this notion that Mueller was paid off. It seemed obvious once it was reported that his Report had been submitted. Barr ended the investigation early and it shut down his ability to gather whatever other evidence he had in the works.

He hasn't said anything because he hasn't been called to say anything.

If he were bought off, they'd probably make sure he was already out there on Fox news agreeing with Barr's fake summary.

by Anonymousreply 541April 18, 2019 3:38 AM

I don't buy the payoff theory. Seems desperate and silly. I do hope he gets called before a committee, again, in open session. Closed session would be bullshit for this kind of thing.

by Anonymousreply 542April 18, 2019 3:39 AM

The House should just immediately issues subpoenas to Barr, Rosenstein and Mueller tomorrow after the report is out. Enough with the time wasting. I know they want to read the full report before they have the hearings but it's taking forever. It's clear that Barr is trying to outrun the clock 2020 November

by Anonymousreply 543April 18, 2019 3:39 AM

I hope that if I ever break the law as badly as some of the Trump folks that I get the same high standard of proof about INTENT as Mueller has provided Trump. I guess saying on TV in front of a crowd of thousands that you want Russia to hack Hillary's emails (and then they do) and saying on TV that you fired the FBI Director because of the Russia investigation that would be enough but Mueller apparently wants written contracts between everyone.

by Anonymousreply 544April 18, 2019 3:43 AM

Here's an example of a Barr redaction...

Trump is ----- guilty.

Will be interpreted as "not guilty".

Actually says "really guilty".

The 'figure out the word/sentence' game is going to be ridiculous. Let's hope the same level of people are redacting this as redacted those Manafort papers where his stupid fucking lawyers didn't properly redact the incriminating evidence.

by Anonymousreply 545April 18, 2019 3:47 AM

example

Trump [s] stated on tv he wanted Comey fired because of "the Russia thing" [/s] but also sought the counsel of Rosenstein who agreed Comey had violated norms with his handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation

by Anonymousreply 546April 18, 2019 3:57 AM

that is kinda the thing right there, r546. it ain't just that Trump admitted the obvious, that he fired Comey for pursuing the whole Russia thing, the idea that they concocted this whole "He was unfair to Hillary" reason is what truly brings it into the realm of obvious crazy lie. They might as well have stamped it "We don't give a fuck what we way, we just hate Comey!" That's kind of the Trump administration in a nutshell, lying and then telling big huge stupid lies to cover up the original kinda sensible lie. And that is why not just Trump but everyone who ever met Trump, ever smiled at him, ever defended him, should be shunned forever, in every social situation. Because nobody can even pretend to believe the crazy bullshit he says.

by Anonymousreply 547April 18, 2019 4:02 AM

If this were a Democrat, there would have been an application for a Writ of Mandamus from the SCOTUS to produce.
The Washington Post is reporting that DOJ plans to release a "lightly redacted" version of the Mueller report. The report, sources tell WaPo, will offer a "granular look "at the ways in which Trump was suspected of having obstructed justice.

What do they consider, "redacted?" If they just omit like 540 of the pages is that considered something different than a redaction?

by Anonymousreply 554April 18, 2019 4:24 AM

Ooh, R552, a stern finger-wagging! That'll teach him!

Just saying.

by Anonymousreply 556April 18, 2019 4:28 AM

It could also be a setup to expose the corruption publicly....wouldn't it be sweet if after Barrs press conference, he leaves the dais and Mueller is waiting for him with an indictment and an arrest warrant for obstruction and aiding and abetting....

by Anonymousreply 560April 18, 2019 4:37 AM

Didn't Nunes recently fuck up a redacted document? I doubt they'd let that happen again.

by Anonymousreply 561April 18, 2019 4:45 AM

Their stupidity is a godsend. I don't believe in God, but the constant fuckups of the Trump Administration do make me wonder a little.

by Anonymousreply 562April 18, 2019 4:46 AM

Yes, they fuck up all the time. Constantly. It truly shows how Goddamn stupid they are.

However, does it matter?

They continue to get away with shit. Constantly.
